2015 continues to be a year of abundance for Epic Endurance Cycling. This includes the spectacular weather and prime trail conditions that we’ve been able to enjoy in the various locales in which we’ve ridden and raced.

Sunday the 25th of September had team riders Kelly Feagans, Jim Fu, and Bill Wheeler taking to the church of dirt in the foothills of Fort Collins. Astride F29’s and Scalpel, we ascended the iconic Maxwell Trail behind CSU’s Hughes Stadium for a respectable warm-up climb to crest at the south end of the Shoreline Trail.

Opening with a reasonably technical descent with a an expansive north-south panorama of Horsetooth Reservoir, recently reopened Shoreline continues to delight after portions of the trail immediately adjacent to the water’s edge were rerouted, thanks to local Overland Mountain Bike Club, following extensive erosion on the heels of heavy May rains.

A quick jog north on the Dam Road pavement, including a few punchy climbs, took us onto a little additional tarmac feeding into Lory State Park where we conveniently refilled our water bottles at the visitors center before quickly resuming on the hardpack singletrack arm of West Valley Loop.

The pleasing curves and rises of the network of Lory trails were as delightful as the characteristically courteous fellow Fort Collins adventurers indulging in the mid-autumn mildness on hoop, heel, and hoof.

Another quick stop at the Soderburg trailhead to top off bottles, and we were off again to assess our onward plans at the north end Blue Sky Trail at which we decided to take the path back into town via the scenic county route that meanders around the Horsetooth Reservoir, generously offering sustained climbs and rises to cap off an already exceptional afternoon on the saddle.

A post-ride fuelstop at Chipotle amply put some lift back into our legs, before heading on to proVelo Bikes to tender our Lefty shocks for some late-season TLC at the Cannondale mothership, to ready us for yet more good rides together, on the cusp of the post-season and looking into the promising year ahead.
